On Thursday, a 54-year-old Naples man was killed while walking on an unlit road in Golden Gate Estates in Collier County.

On Wednesday, an 87-year-old woman was hit and killed by a car in south Fort Myers, and a 44-year-old man was struck and killed as he walked on the side of the road after a car accident in Cape Coral.

On February 1st, a 17 year-old girl, an Estero High School student, was killed by a van while crossing U.S. 41 in Estero.

Florida has topped the list of states with the largest number of pedestrian deaths for several years.Orlando-Kissimmee,Tampa-St.Petersburg-Clearwater, Miami-Ft.Lauderdale-Pompano Beach and Jacksonville topped the list for 2010, according to Transportation for America’s Dangerous by Design study.  Southwest Florida cities in Lee and Collier Counties have not appeared on the study’s list of dangerous regions.
