Fewer Bicycle Collisions With New Bike Lanes in Naples?
The number of bike collisions along a stretch of U.S. 41 in Naples should be reduced with the recent installation of “green” bike paths. Yes, green! The news reported the Miami-based Atlantic Paving Company installed the 4 foot wide paths and painted them green to resemble grass. The roadway, used by 200 bikes a day, was designed to make motorists become more aware of cyclists and hopefully, prevent bike accidents.
Florida has a reputation for being dangerous for pedestrians and bicyclists with a bicycle fatality record at almost three times the national average. One local biker said she was almost hit by a car a few weeks ago, but now drivers seem to be paying more attention with the new bike lanes.
