Oct. 2, 2011 - The St. Petersburg Times news reports that a local man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident on Fifth Avenue North in the vicinity of the 4500 block, in St. Petersburg, on Saturday night. Michael L. Simmons, according to area police, died when he was hit by a car when he was apparently hit in the westbound curb lane. There were no further details available given concerning  the collision or a ongoing investigation .

The car that struck Simmons was a 2010 GMC Terrain driven by Mark James Haumschild, 60, of Seminole. The St. Petersburg police reports this fatal accident occurred just after 8 pm. The accident victim was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he died about 9:25 pm.

According to the news, Simmons would have celebrated his 54th birthday next week.
